Organ Research:
Bevington and Sons in Singapore

I am also interested in organ building history, and in 2018, published a volume documenting the history and restoration of the 1912 Bevington and Sons organ at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd in Singapore.

The organ is a prominent feature of the Cathedral and is Singapore’s oldest pipe organ. It is also arguably, Singapore’s most storied and unique organ, with its 1,882 pipes sourced from different times and places. The Bevington organ is the only one of its kind in South East Asia and is one of only ten pipe organs in Singapore. Following a full restoration and expansion in 2014, it is played daily for services and masses at the Cathedral. Saving the King chronicles the story of the Bevington organ, told through never-before-seen archival material, interviews and news reports.

The book is available for sale from the Cathedral's online shop as well as on request from the National Library of Singapore, and the British Organ Archive housed at the University of Birmingham (ISBN: 978-981-11-7257-1)
